ON APRIL 28, 19 EXECUTIVE CHEFS (and many of their sous chefs) gathered to work in pairs in the open kitchen at Mister Lee’s Noodles to bring forth an eight-course meal with wine pairings from South Italy Imports, previewed by four passed hors d’oeuvres and exclusive cocktails. The second year of what promises to be an annual event, the fundraising dinner for Chefs Cycle for No Kid Hungry raised $26,700 for food insecurity in children.

The dinner was the culmination of a month-long push to send the local team, Wheels of Thyme, off to pedal 60 to 100 miles per day over three days in Oregon in June. The team consists of many in attendance and/or cooking: Lee Chizmar, Dave Joachim, Shane Killeen, Bill Binzak, Angelena Faherty, and Zeke Zelker.

It’s a bit bittersweet, as several days later a fire evicted the apartment residents upstairs and shuttered the business on the first floor, for the foreseeable future. But in the meantime, the spirit of collaboration and camaraderie gives us a strong memory.

If you’d like to donate to support the team in their effort to help end childhood hunger, you can do so at p2p.onecause.com/chefscycle25/team-wheels-of-thyme.
